4MATT Recaps: Chip live at the Jacaranda Liverpool

On the 22nd of April, I went to Chip’s album launch for his new project ‘Grime Scene Saviour’ and it was sick. Held at the iconic Jacaranda in Liverpool, the night was packed with raw energy, heavy bars and serious crowd vibes. The album itself is a bold statement from Chip, blending classic grime roots with sharp, current flows. It’s all about preserving the culture while pushing it foward- calling out the fakes, repping the real and proving why he’s still one of the hardest in the game.

On the night, I was just expecting it to be Chip running through his new album, track by track – but I was seriously suprised when I got in there. As soon as I walked in and saw Liverpool’s very own @Dj.amberrose opening the set, I knew straight away we were in store for some local shellings. She set the tone perfectly and from that moment the energy didn’t drop.

Chip didn’t just keep the spotlight on himself – he brought up a load of Scouse artists who are currently repping the scene hard. One after another, they came up blasting noise and doing their thing with full energy. Chip brought them straight on stage, no messing about – he literally said “Come straight up” making the whole night feel raw and personal. It was proper refreshing to see an artist of his level showing love to local talent like that. These kinds of intimate shows hit different too- there’s way more value and intensity in the music compared to the big arenas we see artists in now adays.

After Chip shut it down, he passed the mic to upcoming artist @CopDattv, who came in heavy with bars from his tune ‘Scouser’ – and he got an instant reload before he finished the verse. The crowd felt it straight away, and that set the pace for what came in next. From there, the mic just kept travelling. It went to man like @bigdaddykoj, who grabbed it and dropped some serious heat from his new EP ‘Villain with a conscience’ with clean delivery, sharp lyrics, no messing about. Then kasst8 jumped in at one point with bars from ‘Scouse Backslang’ and you could feel the shift in the room. Everyone caught the vibe immediately. The energy increased. A proper wheel up moment – the kind where everyone’s looking around like “Yeah, this is mad”.

It’s sick to see a new wave of talent coming through aswell, the likes of @SM.9offical. I’ve caught some of his stuff on other platforms before, so it was cool watching him make his mark at a big event like this. You can tell he’s putting the work in, and to see him up there holding it down alongside these names just proves he really deserves the spotlight.

And at a Chip event, it’s only right that hitters like @degie__would be there, repping properly and holding it down for the scene. I even managed to grab a little chat with him before he went on too solid guy, and cool to see the passion and energy first hand. Also, people like @officalceeze and @man_like_eddie_mac were doing their thing too- both came through with serious presence and extreme energy. Ceeze had the crowd bouncing with his delivery while Eddie Mac came in with recognisable bars. It just rounded off the night perfectly, showing how deep the talent pool in Liverpool really is.

Even thought it was Chip’s event, what stood out the most was how much he highlighted and supported other artists who are really doing their thing right now. It wasn’t just about him- it was about the scene, the culture and pushing the next wave foward. That kind of platform means a lot, especially when it comes from someone with Chip’s status. Proper genuine guy.

These intimate shows feel like they could (and should) make a proper return. There’s something special about that close and personal energy between the artist and the crowd- you feel every lyric, every reload and every reaction in real time. It creates a raw connection that’s getting lost in some of the bigger, overproduced events. Nights like this remind you why grime and live music hit so hard when it’s kept real.
